GENERAL
Some other pictures of Amritsar that doesn't fit within the
Golden Temple or Pakistan Border themes.
There were towers just outside the golden temple courtyard. I don't know if
they were part of the original design or added later, but the temple seemed to be
expanding constantly. This pic was taken from inside the golden temple
courtyard.
Another picture of the towers near the golden temple, but closer to our
hotel lobby. The hotel was more of a shack, but its proximity to the golden
temple made it the best place to stay. I loved the fact that I could walk to the
golden temple in less than a minute. Too bad I couldn't figure out how to turn
on the warm water to bathe. But unlike most of the others there, I did bathe, in
frigidly cold water.
During the day we went walking around the town that grew up around the
golden temple. This was the main commercial building near the temple. Yeah,
commerce rules all. Oh well, if I was in they're state, I would probably resort to
the same tactics to survive. Its too bad that more of the donations to the
temple doesn't leave its premises to help the poor.
There were a few temples around in the same area. This is another one that
we spotted. I love the artwork. Its too bad my experiences with art have
resulted in artifacts that improve significantly when my dog chews on it for a
few days. :(
This was one of the few murals in the area. It was on the entrance into the
train station. I recognize hanuman, mainly cause I used to dress up like him
when I was a kid. I wonder if there is any significance between train
travel/transport and the choice of hanuman as the mural subject?
I know its hot, I know you are tired, I know that shelter is expensive, I
know that you need to protect your property, but isn't that just a bit
dangerous?
