PLAYA DES INGLES BEACH
Here is a good shot of the beach in Playa Des Ingles, one of the major tourist
areas in Gran Canaria. The weather was absolutely gorgeous - sunny with a light
breeze, and not the least bit humid. To the right, you can see the sand dunes,
beyond which the biggest waves come in. Paddle ball seems to be quite a popular
'sport' at the beach. The younger guys have acrobatic competitions - crazy flips
and cartwheels; it's actually quite impressive.
The beach was lined with restaurants, tourist shops, arcades, and entertainers.
There were hosts inviting us into every restaurant we passed; they really
hurt in the off-season.
Here, you can see a close up of the sand dunes. Note to self: no walking through
sand dunes in the future. Yes, we did! The easiest way to get through is to run
barefoot without stopping. While walking through the dunes we saw some people
learning to skydive; that was pretty cool.
The Gopher decided he wanted to visit his buddies, so we started working on it. Nisha
seemed to be the most interested in sending him back to his hole. And yes, people
there did think we were insane, incase there were any doubts.
The streets leading to the beach are lined with quaint little hotels. This is one
in particular caught our attention. Most of the architecture in Playa des Ingles
is quite modern as it is a tourist city.
Tourist Alert, Tourist Alert! The plan was to find Boo, the human pylon,
if we got split up! :p
