We will be having just two events, the mehendi party and the wedding ceremony. Mehendi is the traditional art of decorating the women's hands and sometimes feet with henna to celebrate the wedding. The henna ink is like a temporary tattoo, a very dark red/brown colour, almost black sometimes. The henna is applied as a paste, and allowed to dry. Once dry, it can be removed and the skin will be stained with the pattern. The stain will fade after a week, and lasts between 2-4 weeks. Female guests are also welcome and encouraged to have their hands painted. Hidden within the mehendi designs of the bride are letters of the groom's name. On the wedding night, if the groom finds the letters, he is said to dominate the bride. It is believed that the darker and deeper the henna is, the more the mother-in-law will love her new daughter-in-law and her marriage will be a happy one. http://scottsdalewedding.tripod.com/id6.html http://www.mybindi.com/weddings/festivities/mehndi.cfm http://www.casamai.com/slcg/ind4.html The Mehendi party will be held on October 13th in Mississuaga: Sagan Banquet Hall 7180 Edwards Boulevard Mississauga, Ontario (905) 670-5220 Map to Sagan Banquet Hall |
